The House of Representatives' Committee on Health discussed in the chamber last Nov 28, 2019 the bill spoonsored by Cong. Neptali "Boyet" Gonzales II to establish a new Mandaluyong City General Hospital on Nueve de Febrero Street, Brgy. Mauway in Mandaluyong City. This comes from Dr. Roland L. Cortez, Director of the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) recommendation, the need to build a new tertiary hospital in their complex to meet the needs of their institution, as well as the needs of the Mandaluyong community.
Led by Committee on Health Vice-Chairman and Child Health Party List Congressman Mike Defensor, the committee changed the hospital's name from MANDALUYONG CITY GENERAL HOSPITAL, to SENATE PRESIDENT NEPTALI A. GONZALES GENERAL HOSPITAL. The amendment of Cong. Defensor was immediately approved by all members of the Committee on Health.
House Bill 1591 by Cong. Boyet Gonzales aims to build 300 bed-capacity hospital under the Department of Health (DOH). Apart from being a General Hospital, it will also be a tertiary training hospital with resident and intern doctors and specialists for Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Internal Medicine. This is to ensure that there are always doctors who meet the needs of all patients of NCMH and the Mandaluyong community.
